Our Amenities

Magnolia Birth House offers a private, welcoming atmosphere for birthing parents and their families. Our birthing suites are home-like spaces that provide a comfortable place to have a baby and to rest after the birth. Clients are free to move, walk, talk, eat, and soak in a tub, all while being supported and encouraged by a trained birth team.

Essential Oil Diffusers

Aromatherapy can be useful during labor and birth. Certain oils promote uterine contractions, while some reduce nausea, muscle tension, and pain. Diffusing oils in our birthing suites helps to create a relaxing, comfortable space. A calm, peaceful environment allows the birthing parent to let go of analytical, overthinking tendencies and enter a more primal mindset.

Himalayan Salt Lamps

Salt lamps offer several benefits for a birthing space. Many clients prefer their soft lighting during labor, but they can also help improve air quality, promote a calm energy, boost mood, and reduce anxiety and stress.

Plants

To increase the circulation of oxygen at the birthing center, our suites include the following houseplants: Pothos, Zamioculcas Zamiifolia, and Sansevierias. Pothos is well known for improving indoor air quality, making its environment cleaner. Usually called the ZZ Plant, Zamioculcas Zamiifolia is also an air purifier. Research has even shown that it can remove toxins like xylene, toluene, and benzene from the air. Sansevierias, referred to as Snake Plants, have similar qualities and are considered one of the best plants for purifying air because they absorb toxins and give off oxygen.

Snacks and Drinks

We recommend our clients eat and drink during labor, and we encourage you to bring snacks and drinks. In our kitchen, we keep options available, just in case you forget something or didn’t get to bring all the items you wanted. It’s important to stay hydrated while you’re in labor, so we stock the fridge with electrolyte drinks and coconut water. We also have snacks that have a little bit of sugar and protein to provide nourishment to get through labor.

Garden and Outdoor Space

Our outdoor area features a fire pit, deck, sectional seating, butterfly garden, and walking path. This area is often useful for expectant parents who are having a long labor and can benefit from a change of scenery. It's available during the day and at night and allows clients to get outside, walk around, and breathe some fresh air. They often gain a new perspective, particularly if they're feeling a little down because of a slow labor process.

Nitrous Oxide (available Winter 2023)

Nitrous oxide (N2O), which is sometimes called laughing gas, is a safe, simple, and affordable analgesia for laboring parents. You use it by inhaling it through a mask that covers your mouth and nose. Nitrous oxide is a medicated comfort measure that helps manage pain without causing a total loss of feeling or any loss of muscle movement. There are several benefits, including that it’s self-administered, meaning you can control when and how much of the gas you need. You can also start and stop it easily and quickly at any time.

Berkey Water Filters

We use Berkey water filters for both drinking water and in our showers at Magnolia. Berkey water filters remove 203 contaminants, producing purified drinking water that meets the highest quality standards. The Berkey Shower Filter decreases chlorine by up to 95 percent and significantly reduces the amount of scale build-up in showers. This means that the filter lessens chemical absorption and vapor inhalation in the bathroom.

Molekule and Coway Air Purifiers

Both Molekule and Coway air purifiers use innovative technology that removes and destroys pollutants from the environment, providing the cleanest air possible in the birthing center. These systems break down VOCs, bacteria, mold, viruses, and allergens.

Bose Speakers

If you have something you’d like to listen to during labor and birth — whether it’s music or affirmations — Bose speakers are the perfect solution. These speakers can connect to your phone, tablet, or laptop, and the Bose brand is well known for its high-quality sound and acoustics.

Birth Swing (available Summer 2021)

A birth swing is a set of fabric loops that hang from the ceiling. By supporting the expectant parent in upright positions, the birth swing has the potential to shorten the duration of labor. Birthing parents often use the birth swing to sit, squat, or lean during labor, and it is often helpful for those who may have back pain or weak abdominal muscles.

TENS Unit

An acronym for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, a TENS unit is a battery-operated device that’s commonly used for non-pharmacological pain management. The device connects to electrodes, which come on pads that are placed on the birthing parent’s body. The electrodes deliver mild electrical pulses that result in a buzzing, tingling, or prickling feeling in the location of the pads. Birthing parents can adjust the TENS unit’s intensity, and this method can be stopped at any point during labor.
